Weddings

1 Corinthians 13:4-7

Ecclesiastes 4:9-12
“Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor: If either of them falls down, one can help the other up. But pity anyone who falls and has no one to help them up. … A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.”

Ephesians 4:2-3
“Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love. Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace.”

Funerals

Psalm 23:1-4
“The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters. He restores my soul. He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me.”

John 14:1-3
“Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me. My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.”

1 Thessalonians 4:13-14
“Brothers and sisters, we do not want you to be uninformed about those who sleep in death, so that you do not grieve like the rest of mankind, who have no hope. For we believe that Jesus died and rose again, and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him.”

For Roman Catholics

Funerals

Romans 14:7-9

Notes

All of these passages are from the New International Version (NIV) or similar modern English translations; you may adjust depending on your preferred Bible translation or the family’s request.

For Catholic weddings and funerals, it’s always best to coordinate with the parish or priest if the ceremony is held in a church.

For non-religious or interfaith services, these passages can be presented in a more general, inclusive way or simply offered as an option for those who wish to include a biblical element.
