Bible Verses for Weddings and Funerals
For Non-Catholic Christians (Protestant, Evangelical, Anglican, etc.)
Weddings
-
1 Corinthians 13:4-7
“Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.” -
Ecclesiastes 4:9-12
“Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor: If either of them falls down, one can help the other up. But pity anyone who falls and has no one to help them up. … A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.” -
Ephesians 4:2-3
“Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love. Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace.”
Funerals
-
Psalm 23:1-4
“The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters. He restores my soul. He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me.” -
John 14:1-3
“Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me. My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.” -
1 Thessalonians 4:13-14
“Brothers and sisters, we do not want you to be uninformed about those who sleep in death, so that you do not grieve like the rest of mankind, who have no hope. For we believe that Jesus died and rose again, and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him.”
For Roman Catholics
(Note: Roman Catholic services typically follow an approved lectionary and may require approval from the parish priest or celebrant, but these verses are commonly used and generally accepted in Catholic liturgies.)
Weddings
-
1 Corinthians 13:4-7
(Same as above—universally loved and often used in Catholic wedding Masses.) -
Colossians 3:12-14
“As God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience. Bear with one another and, if anyone has a complaint against another, forgive each other; just as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive. Above all, clothe yourselves with love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony.” -
Romans 12:10
“Love one another with mutual affection; outdo one another in showing honor.”
Funerals
-
Psalm 23
(As above—used in both Catholic and Protestant funerals.) -
Romans 14:7-9
“For none of us lives for ourselves alone, and none of us dies for ourselves alone. If we live, we live for the Lord; and if we die, we die for the Lord. So, whether we live or die, we belong to the Lord.” -
John 11:25-26
“Jesus said to her, ‘I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; and whoever lives by believing in me will never die.’”
Notes
-
All of these passages are from the New International Version (NIV) or similar modern English translations; you may adjust depending on your preferred Bible translation or the family’s request.
-
For Catholic weddings and funerals, it’s always best to coordinate with the parish or priest if the ceremony is held in a church.
-
For non-religious or interfaith services, these passages can be presented in a more general, inclusive way or simply offered as an option for those who wish to include a biblical element.

Non-Religious Poems
Funeral
“A Life Remembered”
A life remembered is a story well told—
In laughter shared and hands held,
In quiet moments and joyful days,
In every kindness given,
In love that never fades.
May memories bring you peace,
And may you find comfort
In knowing their light shines on
In each of us.
“In Memory”
Though they may be gone from our sight,
Their presence lingers in the gentle breeze,
In the hush of dawn, in the glow of dusk—
Every memory a quiet song
That reminds us love endures.
Wedding
“Two Hearts”
Two hearts, two hands, two lives—
Joined in laughter, shared in tears,
Walking the path of life together,
Side by side, year by year.
May your journey be bright,
Your days filled with wonder,
And your love,
A steady flame that grows ever stronger.
“A Promise”
Today you promise each other
To share dreams and discover new ones,
To build a life that’s yours alone,
To laugh often, to forgive freely,
To walk together, hand in hand,
Through all the seasons of life.
✝️ Religious Poems
Funeral
“Peaceful Rest”
In God’s arms you rest above,
In our hearts you rest with love.
Memories keep you near to us,
Though gone from our sight,
Forever in His light.
“A Prayer of Thanks”
Thank you, Lord, for a life well-lived,
For the laughter, the tears, the gifts they gave.
May their soul rest in Your tender care,
Until we meet again, beyond the veil.
Wedding
“Love’s Blessing”
May God bless this union with joy,
With strength to weather every storm,
With grace that grows with each sunrise,
And love that deepens through the years.
“Joined in Faith”
May the Lord’s light shine upon you both,
Guiding your steps,
Filling your hearts with kindness,
And blessing your home
With peace and laughter always.

My Story
My Story – John McMurray, Celebrant
My name is John McMurray, and I’m truly honored to walk alongside people during some of life’s most powerful moments — both joyful and solemn.
For as long as I can remember, I’ve had a deep respect for the meaning behind life’s major milestones. Whether it’s two people pledging a lifetime of love or a family coming together to remember someone dearly missed, I believe every story deserves to be told with dignity, heart, and care.
My journey into becoming a celebrant came from a simple belief: every ceremony should be personal, meaningful, and true to the people at its heart. Over the years, I’ve worked with couples and families from all walks of life, taking time to truly listen, understand their wishes, and create a space where love, remembrance, and connection can shine through.
I pride myself on being approachable, dependable, and available — 24 hours a day, 7 days a week — because I understand that life doesn’t always follow a schedule. When you call me, I answer. When you need support, I show up. That’s my promise to you.
Whether you're preparing for a wedding filled with joy or a farewell filled with love, I will be there to guide you, write your story with care, and lead your ceremony with professionalism and warmth.
Thank you for considering me to be part of your special moment.
If you’d like to speak, please don’t hesitate to call — I’m always here.

About Me
My name is John McMurray, and I am a servant of Jesus Christ, called to walk with others in faith, hope, and love. I am an ordained minister with the Christian Leaders Alliance and teach with Christian Leaders College and Institute, where I help raise up new leaders for God’s Kingdom.
My wife, Sharon, and I share a heart for soul-centered ministry. Together, we lead Victorious Hope Fellowship, a space for healing, restoration, and spiritual growth. We believe that no one is beyond God’s reach, and that ministry is not about fixing others, but walking with them through their journey—offering compassion, listening, and truth.
I have planted four churches, pastored an established one, and now focus much of my time on pastoral care, mentoring, and serving as an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion. I bring communion to the sick and dying, offering presence and peace in their most vulnerable moments. It is one of the greatest privileges of my life.
My academic journey led me through Dordt College and Calvin Seminary, where I was grounded in both Reformed theology and the practical work of ministry. I was commissioned in 2024 and ordained in January 2025. My formation is deeply shaped by Scripture, Spirit, and service.
This calling isn’t about position or title—it’s about loving people where they are, lifting them in prayer, and helping them encounter Christ’s light in their darkest places. I believe every prayer matters, every tear is seen, and every soul has worth beyond measure.
Whether through weddings, blessings, grief support, or personal ministry, I offer myself as a vessel—serving not in my own strength, but through the Spirit of the Living God. May my words, works, and witness glorify Him always.
Thank you for visiting my site. May something here speak to your heart and draw you closer to the One who loves you without condition.
